The Green Lake Park

翠湖公园位于昆明市区五华山西麓，占地面积22.1公顷，是昆明城区内景色秀丽的公园。翠湖公园的历史可以追溯到元代，当时称“菜海子”，因湖东面竹林岛池中有9个泉眼，“九泉所出，汇而成池”，又名“九龙池”。翠湖公园由观鱼楼、莲花禅院、水月轩、竹林岛、九龙池、西南岛等景点组成，湖堤畔柳树成荫，湖內轻舟飘荡，荷花摇曳；陆面棕榈、三角枫、垂丝海棠、修竹茂林，各具风姿，是昆明市民的游览休闲场所。2002年9月25日，翠湖公园面向社会免费开放，开放后每年接待游客上千万人次。

The Green Lake Park is situated at the west foot of Wuhua Hill. It covers an area of 22.1 hectares and is one of the most scenic parks in Kunming. Its history dates back to the Yuan Dynasty, when it was known as “Caihaizi” (literally the Vegetable Lake). In the east of the lake, there used to be nine springs feeding a pool on the Bamboo Grove Island, so it was referred to as the Nine Dragon Pool. The attractions in the Green Lake Park include the Fish-Watching Tower, the Lotus Temple, the Water and Moon Pavilion, the Bamboo Grove Island, the Nine Dragon Pool, and the Southwest Island. The densely-planted willow trees on the embankments throw shade into the lake, where boats are floating and lotus leaves are swaying; the palms, maples, cherry apple trees, bamboo bushes, and flourishing woods are charming in different ways, making the park an ideal recreational area for Kunming people. Since September 25, 2002, the Green Lake Park has been open to the public free of admission and has been receiving tens of millions of visitors each year.

The Yunnan Military Academy

云南陆军讲武堂与保定军校、黄埔军校并称为中国近现代史上三所著名的军事院校。1909开始办学，1935年停办，先后培养学员9000余人。从这里走出了包括中华人民共和国开国元勋朱德、叶剑英，朝鲜最高人民委员会委员长崔庸健、韩国开国总理兼国防部长李范奭等一大批杰出军事统帅和将领，可谓“帅星闪耀，名将辈出”，因此， 又被称为“将帅摇篮”。现旧址占地约70000平方米，主体建筑四合院是我国近代中西方建筑完美合璧的精美建筑典范。

The Yunnan Military Academy, the Baoding Military Academy, and the Huangpu Military Academy are jointly known as three famous military academies in the modern history of China. It was founded in 1909 and when it was closed down in 1935, it had trained more than 9,000 students, including Zhu De and Ye Jianying (both founding fathers of the People’s Republic of China), Choe Yong-gon (Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly of DPRK), Lee Beom-seok (the first Prime Minister and Defense Minister of South Korea) and many other outstanding generals and military commanders. Therefore, it is also known as “the cradle of generals”. The old site now covers an area of about 70,000 square meters. The courtyard house, its main building, is a perfect combination of modern Chinese and Western architectural styles.
